Crooked Paths: Our Journeys Don’t Have to be Straight

Updated: Aug 11

crooked trail into the fog

"For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." (Psalm 100:5)

I walk around my raised trail behind my house in the early morning while there is still dew on the ground. The second time around, I noticed something curious about my previous walk. I had forged a path in the dew. My footprints left a dewless trail, those footprints were darker than the dew filled space around them.

Some of my previous trail showed a perfectly straight path, other sections swerved. The places there were deviations, veers in the road were small hills, or even a hole that God prevented me from tripping into.

As I continued on my walk. I noted a trail that went perpendicular to my journey and there seemed to be a staggering step with much of the grass disturbed.

What happened here? I got an impression from the Lord, “This is where you stopped and turned to see the breeze move through the trees. This is where you stopped to revel in My goodness.”

Maybe crooked paths aren't so bad.

We often crave a straight path, but maybe we should consider that there are moments when a deviation in our journey is justified. Lord, help us reveal in the moments that You have us stop dead in our tracks to showcase Your goodness. We don’t want to miss the splendor in front of us just because it takes us from our logical, straight path into brief moments in the unknown.

“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:2)

Prayer for you and me: Lord, help us discern when we should stay on the path and when we should swerve to meet your goodness. Grant us divine appointments with Your revelation and with Your people to award us the fullness You have for our life. We don’t want to miss a thing. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
