Look deeper than the end of your fishing pole

Look deeper than the end of your fishing pole and live deeper than you ever imagined.

You need to live deeper than the end of your fishing line. Live in the depth of what the Lord has for you. 

We have a tendency to see what we desire as that big fish, that great finish line, as our big goal. We believe that once we catch that fish or reach that goal then we will be fulfilled. When in fact, the Lord has for us almost infinitely larger things than what we would desire. His purposes and plans are more significant than ours. It would be like comparing the hook at the end of our fishing line to the size of the ocean.  

We can’t let our small thinking be the plan for the rest of our lives

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.” (Prov. 3:5-7, ESV).

When we narrow our focus too intently onto what seems good for us, we risk doing and saying things that were never inside God‘s plan, in order to obtain these small things.

When often what the Lord has for us is more about relationship and desiring what is good for others above ourselves.

I’m a very goal orientated person. It’s easy for me to write long and complex to-do lists I find great delight and crossing off.

Instead, I should allow the Lord to put the items on my to-do list instead of wasting my precious time on things that have no eternal value

I am working at trying to live out this mind shift but haven’t mastered the skill.

How do you keep your focus on God’s plans and not your own?

Prayer for you and me. Lord, let us see what You have right in front of us. We desire to eat fully of what You have put onto our plates. Help us let go of the things that are not of any worth and instead help us cling to the things that delight You. We need Your wisdom and we thank You for it in Jesus’ name amen.
