Splash of Color
I saw color cannons exploding with every variation of hue. Soon the colors mixed in the wind creating even more variety. (Color cannons are the tubes that are filled with colored powder commonly used at baby gender reveals)
I had a desire to call out, “Wait, don’t fire off all the colors at once.” I was worried that the colors would make a mess as they mixed.
“No, look at My sunsets. I spare no color. They are an extravagant display — every morning is new. Joy spread out by My hand and absorbed by your hearts. I desire you to release joy to those I have put within your reach without worry of being wasteful. Or any thoughts of doing it wrong. Nor do I want you to attempt to control things to produce a perfect outcome.”
I pondered this and how many moments of joy passed me by without the proper amount of thankfulness.
“Don’t worry about depleting joy and vibrant living by fully engaging in it. Fullness of joy bolsters the soul. It can become a treasure box for a lifetime. A location to go and receive strength. A marker in time. Or memory stones like the ancient Israelites stacked up.”

As beautiful as our sunsets are on earth, I think it’s just a taste of what we will experience in heaven. Our God gives extravagantly. He didn’t have to create this world with so much beauty and variety, but He did.
When I consider all the loveliness He provides us, I ponder why? I believe it is to share in our joy with Him. He desires to delight His image bearers with His creation. The following scripture describes some of the colors, majesty, and glory we will witness in heaven. He graces us with far more than a spash of color.
“At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.
And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Rev. 4:2-8, ESV)
God has over abundantly poured out His love for us. That He considers us to be children is extraordinary. No other religion claims such extravagant love and relationship that we are afforded as we follow Christ.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” (1 John 3:1, NIV)
Are you extravagantly pouring out your love on others?
Do you consider that the joy Christ desires to give you is there to help you live life to the fullest?
Take time and watch a sunset and marvel as he splashes color across the sky with abandon.

Prayer for you and me: Lord, help us lavish our love on others extravagantly. Let us not be concerned that we will run out or do it wrong. Let us splash and play in the joy of the Lord without a concern for perfection. Teach us to rest in Your joy, peace, and extravagant nature. You are a good God who provides all we need. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
