Locked out and desperate. Don’t do life on your own.
A hex key dangled in direct-line vision from my eyes. I turned to see a keyhole in a simple door behind me.
The items were incompatible.
Suddenly the hex key developed another portion that came up and out of it, then another portion extended from behind and below.
As I watched, the key gained incredible complexity and depth as it twirled in the air, transforming in front of me.
“What am I supposed to do with this vision? I asked. “What is the meaning of the keys?”
The Lord answered. “The original hex key symbolizes what you can do on your own. Out of your own works. I develop complex keys that can open all the right doors. In submission to Me, I provide the who, what, when and where. I create the divine connections between you and the people you were meant to interact with. The what are the tasks or purposes I have planned for you, that you encounter on your unique path. The when needs to be so precise, it is down to the second. The where is the location I have ordained for you to operate in. You cannot control any of these dimensions or dominions. When you depend on your own works doors, will stay closed. Don’t do life on your own.”
I joked, “I probably wouldn’t even find the door, would I?”
I felt His smile, which was His only reply.

I don’t know if it’s my impatience or my tenacity or a combination of the two, but I don’t wait well. I want to get things done. Cross it off my list. I try to barge through doors without the tools I need.
This vision helped me realize there are some things, okay most things, I can’t do on my own. If we’re honest, all things of eternal worth need God’s direct intervention.
Which we can neither duplicate nor rush. We need God to move in God-sized proportion in our lives. Without Him we would wander aimlessly, constantly thwarted and frustrated by our lack of fulfillment. We could not love the people He put in our lives. We would be left unable to pray for and operate in the locations He placed us in. We would miss opportunities to serve because our timing was off. Our attentions would be directed to tasks of little consequence, our hearts turned toward purposes beneath us.
But with Him, all things are possible. Don’t do life on your own.
“I will go before you and level the mountains [to make the crooked places straight]; I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut asunder the bars of iron.” (Isaiah 45:2, AMPC)
Prayer for you and me:
Lord Jesus, make our crooked paths straight, make a way where there is no way. Help us wait in submission and anticipation of Your next move. You hold all things in Your hands and we trust You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
