Ice Cubes Chance in Hell

Ice cube's chance in hell.

I watched giant cubes of ice being stacked and set into place to create a staircase. Disturbing, faceless witnesses lined up on either side of the flight of steps, watching the entire event.

I had an uneasy feeling, so I asked God what was happening.

“Do you think I provide you a path that is like ice cube steps in hell?”

The whole scene could’ve been laughable if it weren’t for the uneasy feeling and overwhelming sense of dread, and uncertainty. After all the whole thing reminded me of the saying an ice cube's chance in hell.

I finally answered. “No.”

“The path I provide, you is stable and perfect. Beauty and grace line the trail. The foundation is Christ, and the prayers from many generations build it up. The beauty along the path is to strengthen you. There is a slow and steady upward pace on My path. Any fast-paced, frantic movements based on fear of missing out, unease, and uncertainty are from the enemy. Anytime you say any of these phrases, it’s not from Me. If I could only… What if I can’t… Someone else is more qualified? Constant connection to Me alleviates all of these questions and doubt.”

I nodded and thought about how recently my life had been tossed around because of fear of missing out instead of being present. Worse yet I’ve been driven to accomplish so many tasks instead of loving the people He’s given me.

He continued. “It is important to realize the path is extremely narrow, but even this is to your advantage; you are spurred onward. There is no sitting down on the path or meandering back-and-forth on it. It is too narrow and leads one way.”

“When you say spurred onward, what is it that spurs us on? I feel like I’m too stubborn and often get stuck and unmotivated. How am I spurred onward?” This line of thinking pushed me into anxiety and worry so easily.

“The same Holy Spirit that helped Jesus Christ walk to the cross is the same Holy Spirit working within you and beside you to go forward on the path God designed for you.”

I sat stunned for a while and tried to pull that information into my heart and make sense of it. How could I be worried if what He said was true? That I have the same Holy Spirit within me that helped Jesus.

I didn’t think there was more, but I waited.

“So many Christians are confused; they think their Christian walk is about tasks and assignments. And to a small extent, it is, but the greatest of these is love. It is not how well you complete the task; it’s who you are while doing it. Are you allowing God‘s love to flow? Do you act like Me?”

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Cor. 13:13, ESV)

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Col. 3:23-24, ESV)

God really means that word (everything). I’m starting to grasp that idea in my head. And I’m praying that this knowledge leaks down into my heart.

The Lord is most interested in who you are becoming. Are you surrendering daily your desires for His so that His love might manifest on earth as it is in heaven?

Your greatest purpose on Earth is to be the love of Jesus Christ to others, not to do tasks even if it is for others.

Prayer for you and me. Lord help us refuse to have the fear of missing out and the fear of man. To not be stuck trying so hard to do the work that we forget to demonstrate His character. Help us instead to be your love here on earth as it is in heaven, deepen our relationship with you in Jesus’ name. Amen
