Choose Your Hard

Choose Your Hard

I had a dream that I overheard one of my senior son’s friends talking.

He was telling his classmates he couldn’t go to college because school wasn’t easy for him. He explained how learning and completing his work seemed so much more difficult than what he saw everyone else doing. He saw no reason to continue with school.

I couldn’t remain silent any longer so I blurted, “Choose your hard. Working for an education is hard. But giving up before you try is it even harder? You must commit to doing the work God puts in front of you. We have no idea about His long-term plans and what tools you will need to carry them out. If He says you need to submit to the hard work of education, then do it. If He says you should commit to another endeavor, do that. But don’t quit before you start. Missing out on the plans of the Lord would be the hardest.”

            Quitting is hard

Dead hard — it kills dreams, even the hopes of dreams.

Quitting kills obedience to God stifling a relationship with Him.

Quitting before you even start kills the joy of hearing well done good and faithful servant.

            Choose Your Hard

But know that disobedience to God will cause nothing but pain.

Obeying Him is the sweetest place we can be

“Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him. One who does not [really] love Me does not keep My words. And the word (teaching) which you hear is not Mine, but is the Father’s who sent Me.” (John 14:23-24, AMP)

Prayer for you and me: Lord, help us delight in obeying You. Even when things seem harder than we can imagine enduring or successfully completing. You are strong when we are weak. Grant us wisdom to know Your will and joy and strength to complete it. Thank You, Amen.
