Your Testimony is not Your Identity

Your Testimony is not Your identity

I saw a huge hand, writing on a paper recording something. As I watched, it became obvious the hand was the Lord’s. It had no tool of any kind and I understood He inscribed the text with His fingers. He wrote about someone, recording on their life. Bringing it into existence.

My entire body buzzed with a feeling of contentment and righteousness. I could not see the writing, but I knew it was good.

I prayed anything written not of God’s will would not take root in their lives. Even as I prayed, I felt that the prayer was unnecessary. He wrote only what was righteous and nothing but God’s will could ever touch the paper.

The Lord explained, “In your book written before time, it has recorded my plans and purposes and what I have accomplished in your life. I do not record your errors. Stop documenting them and stop spending time and effort on making them. Do not confuse your testimony of what I overthrew in your life with your identity. Ask what I know about you? What do I think about you and what I have written about you? You delight me, child.”

 “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

    my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your book were written, every one of them,

    the days that were formed for me,

    when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalm 139:14-18, ESV)

            I praise You for what You have overthrown in my life, but I know Your plans are for so much more. You say to us, You will give us exceedingly above what we could ask or even think. Expand our ability to see and call forth what You have for us in the spiritual realm.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” (Eph. 3: 20-21, NASB).

Your testimony was amazing, but He has much more for you

            Expand and deepen our spiritual eyes to see what You are doing right now, but also so that we might see what You desire for our lives to come. Let us not be stuck in our human understanding. Let us not be stuck asking for menial things. Things that are of no eternal value.

            No one can erase what is written in your life and about your life by the Lord. He didn’t write it with human hands or with human instruments, but with His strong right hand. It cannot be erased. What He says stands.

            Nothing we ourselves could do or anyone else would erase what He has written.

Your testimony is powerful, but it is not who you are.

Prayer for you and me:

Sing over me My identity. I don’t want to agree with anything about me or my family that you haven’t spoken into existence. Remind me my testimony is not my identity. I praise You for what You have overthrown in my life. And I agree with You and the blessings and favor You are bringing to me and my family.
